The Saab 2000 is a twin-engine high-speed turboprop airliner developed and built by the Swedish company Saab. The 2000’s design was based on the predecessing Saab 340 regional airliner, with the aim to submit a new design for the increasing demand for a turboprop airliner that was more efficient, while also able to seat at least 50 passengers, operating over short- or medium-range routes. The fuselage of the Model 340 was extended, and sections added to the tips and roots of the wings provided a larger wingspan. The Saab 2000’s twin Rolls-Royce engines were mounted on the enhanced wings, powering 6-bladed Dowty propellers at a slow rotational speed. Today, a limited number of the Saab 2000 aircrafts are in service, in transport roles exclusively.
