Aériane Sirocco

The Aeriane Sirocco is a single-seat ultralight aircraft, available in kit or fully assembled form. It has a pod-and-boom design with a tricycle undercarriage and pusher configuration and a composite construction fuselage. The aircraft has two detachable wings, which allow for more accessible transport. The leading-edge box has a spar and fibreglass leading edge with an alloy rear strut. The wings have pre-formed aluminium ribs, and the trailing edge spar is constructed from laminated fibreglass. These are connected by compression rods, cables and ribs, which ensure the shape and tension of the wing to improve aerodynamics. The coating is “Bainbridge” Dacron, 170 gr/m². Once in place on the fuselage, cables and a kingpost stay on the two wings. The vertical fin and fuselage are made of a lightweight fibreglass-polyester frame, which has two half-shells moulded by frames with an aerodynamic shape.

The landing gear is made from glass epoxy. The main gear is flexible; the front axle is steerable and has a brake drum. The steering control is a lever on the right-hand side of the cockpit with locking in a neutral position function. The two-stroke-type engine has potential power ranging from 24 hp (18 kW) König SC 430RD to 40 hp (30 kW) Rotax 447 and is mounted on the back of the central mast. The aircraft starting is manual. The pilot is in a recumbent position in the cockpit. The canopy is removable; flights are possible without the canopy in hot weather. For the winter there is an electric heater. The pilot is kept in his seat by a 3-point belt with the seat fixed, but the rudder pedals are adjustable (3 positions) depending on the size of the pilot. The mini-control stick is central. The one-piece tail-plane is controlled by rigid rods and ball joints, and a trim tab helps balance the machine at all speeds, improving comfort.
