Introduced in 1969, the Canadair CL-215 Scooper is a series of amphibious “flying boat” aircraft, developed and manufactured by Canadair. The company unfortunately hadgone bankrupt, and was purchased by Bombardier in 1986, overtaking the project. From the beginning, the intended use of the aircraft was aerial firefighting/water bomber applications, making it essential for the CL-125 to perform at a low speed and have a great payload capacity. The design for the CL-125 was finalised with a spacious fuselage to accommodate for a number of operations, e.g. search and rescue, cargo or passenger transport, while the primary role remains aerial firefighting to the CL-215s in service. The very first variant was the CL-215A, powered by twin Pratt & Whitney R-2800 engines, and marketed as a utility freight aircraft.
