Eurocopter Sa341 (Gazelle)

The Aérospatiale SA 341 Gazelle is a light transport/utility helicopter, introduced in 1973. Designs for the Gazelle came on follwoing the French Army announcing a requirement for a lightweight observation helicopter, which was to replace the Aérospatiale Alouette III. Sud Aviation commenced developing a new rotorcraft design in 1966, which was agreed to be extended and made more versatile in order to attract more attention in the market. As an intended replacement for the Alouette III, the new Gazelle beared several similarities to the predecesssor, while also introducing the significant innovation of utilising fenestron. The Gazelle was the first helicopter with this modification. The powerplant used was a Turbomeca Astazou turbine engine, powering a three-blade rotor. The Gazelle became popular as a scouting and light attack rotorcraft.
