The Northrop T-38 Talon is a twinjet supersonic jet training aircraft. The T-38 Talon was derived from an initial project, with the designation N-156. This development came about following a series of discussions with General Electric Aviation, who have proposed a light but powerful engine to be utilised for future aircrafts. An subsequent agreement has been made to create a lightweight fighter, installed with General Electric J85 engines. The aircraft was modified in the mid-1950s, for a trainer requirement issued by the U.S. Air Force, and eventually receiving the T-38 Talon designation. The aircraft was the world’s first supersonic trainer remaining in production and service to this day.
