The original Rockwell Commander 112 is an American four-seat single-engined general aviation aircraft, introduced in 1972, designed and produced by North American Rockwell. They aspired to create an aircraft that would compete with the fixed-gear four-seat market as well as the retractable twin-engine six-seat design. In 1976, Rockwell announced a new variant designated the name Commander 114 utilising a larger Lycoming IO-540 engine and manufactured with other minor amendments to improve performance. Across the different models and variants, around 1,000 aircrafts were manufactured and sold before the production line shut down in 1980. The rights to the Commander 114 and other models in the family were sold to Commander Aircraft in 1988.
