In a previous article, we have highlighted 5 interesting facts about laser engraving and laser etching, which include the processes being hugely popular way for businesses to develop brand awareness.
What are the Differences Between the Two Processes?
Although laser etching is quicker, laser engraving is more long-lasting. This is because etching uses less energy than vaporising, which is used in the engraving process. Deep laser engraving may need many laser passes and, as a result, more time.
On the other hand, the holes produced by engraving are more resistant to wear than the higher markings created by etching. In fact, laser etching elevation can be as high as 80 microns, while laser engraving depth can be as low as 500 microns.
When it comes to creating high-contrast marks, laser etching truly shines. Unlike laser engraving, which produces solely black markings, etching offers a wider range of possibilities. It can produce both black and white marks, allowing for more versatile and creative markings.
Unless you want a high level of abrasion resistance, etching is preferable to engraving.
